The 4.8 x 8mm A2 stainless steel blind dome rivet is a permanent blind fastening solution for joining materials where access is available from one side only. Its dome head provides a neat, low-profile finish while the A2 stainless steel construction provides good corrosion resistance for a wide range of applications.
The blind rivet is installed using a suitable rivet tool, which pulls the mandrel through the rivet body to expand the blind side and clamp the materials together. Once installed, the mandrel breaks off to leave a secure permanent fixing.
A blind rivet, also known as a pop rivet, is a two-piece fastener consisting of a rivet body and mandrel. It is designed for applications where the rear side of the materials cannot be accessed during installation.
The rivet body is inserted through a prepared hole and a suitable rivet tool pulls the mandrel through the body. This causes the blind side of the rivet to expand and clamp the materials together. The mandrel then breaks off to leave a permanent connection.
Key features
A2 stainless steel blind rivets are used where materials need to be permanently joined and access is only available from one side of the assembly. Stainless steel makes them suitable for applications where increased corrosion resistance is required compared with standard steel rivets.
Typical applications include:
The materials being joined should be compatible with the rivet and sufficiently strong to withstand the clamping forces generated during installation. Select the rivet size according to the combined material thickness and required grip range.
This type of blind dome rivet is commonly manufactured to the dimensional requirements of ISO 15983 for open-type blind rivets with dome or pan heads.
Technical note: Always select the rivet according to the actual combined material thickness and manufacturer's specified grip range. Do not select rivet length based solely on the material thickness.
What is a blind rivet used for?
A blind rivet is used to permanently join two or more materials where access to the rear side of the joint is restricted or unavailable. It can be installed entirely from the accessible side using a suitable rivet tool.
What does 4.8 x 8mm mean?
The 4.8mm refers to the nominal diameter of the rivet body and the 8mm refers to the body length of the rivet.
What is the benefit of the dome head?
The dome head provides a neat, rounded finish on the visible side of the joint. It also provides a bearing surface against the material being fastened.
What material is the rivet made from?
This rivet is manufactured from A2 stainless steel, providing good corrosion resistance for many internal and external applications.
What grip range does a 4.8 x 8mm blind rivet have?
A typical 4.8 x 8mm A2 stainless steel dome head blind rivet has a grip range of approximately 1.5 to 4mm. Always check the manufacturer's specification for the exact rivet before installation.
What size hole is required?
A typical 4.8mm blind rivet requires a prepared hole of approximately 4.9mm. The hole should be clean and free from burrs to allow the rivet body to pass through correctly.
How is a blind rivet installed?
The rivet body is inserted through the prepared hole and a suitable rivet tool is fitted over the mandrel. Operating the tool pulls the mandrel through the rivet body, expanding the blind side and clamping the materials together. The mandrel then breaks off when the rivet has been set.
Can stainless steel blind rivets be used outdoors?
Yes. A2 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance and is suitable for many outdoor and exposed applications. For highly aggressive, marine or particularly corrosive environments, the suitability of A2 stainless steel should be assessed carefully.
Are blind rivets removable?
Blind rivets are designed as permanent fasteners. If removal is required, the rivet can normally be drilled out carefully, but the original rivet cannot generally be reused.

Installation: Drill or prepare the hole to the required diameter and ensure the materials are securely aligned. Insert the rivet body through the materials and fit a suitable blind rivet tool over the mandrel. Operate the tool until the mandrel breaks off and the rivet body has expanded securely against the blind side of the joint. Select the rivet according to the manufacturer's specified grip range and check the completed joint for secure installation.
