The Carpenters Mate Flat Head Warm Roof Insulation Screw 6.5 × 100mm is a long structural timber screw used to secure counter-battens through warm roof insulation into the supporting timber rafters. Its 15.7mm flat countersunk head provides a broad bearing area and finishes flush with the counter-batten surface.
Designed for warm roof, on-roof insulation and over-rafter insulation systems, the screw combines a 55mm partial thread with countersinking ribs, a slash point and a debris-clearing helix. Its Dacromet® coating is specified for Service Class 2 applications in accordance with EN 1995-1-1, subject to the exposure conditions and project specification.
Carpenters Mate flat head screws are structural timber screws suited to warm roof and on-roof insulation construction. The long overall length allows the screw to pass through the counter-batten and insulation layer before achieving the required embedment into the supporting timber rafter.
The wide flat head clamps the counter-batten securely and finishes flush with its surface. The partial thread helps draw the upper component firmly against the supporting timber.

These warm roof screws are primarily used to secure timber counter-battens over a continuous insulation layer. The fixing passes through the counter-batten and insulation before anchoring into the timber rafter below, helping transfer loads back to the supporting roof structure.
Typical applications include:
The screw length must accommodate the counter-batten thickness and insulation depth while still providing the minimum embedment required in the timber rafter. A longer or shorter fixing may therefore be required for different roof build-ups.
Structural note: The screw diameter, length, quantity, angle, spacing and rafter embedment must be determined from the roof-system guidance and project-specific structural design. Do not rely on the insulation layer to carry structural loads.
The manufacturer’s Declaration of Performance references initial type testing under System 3 against BS EN 14592:2008+A1:2012 for dowel-type fasteners used in load-bearing timber structures.

Installation: Install using a correctly fitting T30 driver bit and drive the head flush with the timber surface without overdriving. Pre-drilling may not normally be required in suitable softwood within the manufacturer’s installation conditions, but it may be necessary in dense or brittle timber, close to edges and ends, or where specified by the project design. Maintain the required spacing, edge distances and minimum embedment. Structural connections must follow the manufacturer’s declared performance data and the project engineer’s fixing schedule.
