Parliament hinges are designed for doors that need to fold all the way back against the adjacent wall, or in simpler terms, doors that need to open 180 degrees from the closed position. This is achieved by throwing the pivot point of the hinge away from the door frame, so that the door can hinge all the way around without being obstructed. Parliament hinges are intended for lightweight internal doors or cupboard doors. For heavier doors, we recommend using projection hinges. It is common practice to use three hinges per leaf on internal doors. This helps spread the load more evenly and helps to prevent the door from twisting or warping.
