The HECO-TOPIX A2 Stainless Steel Flange Head Screw 8 × 80mm is a full-thread structural timber screw designed for strong wood-to-wood connections. Its wide 18mm flange head provides a larger bearing surface than a standard countersunk head, helping to distribute the clamping load across the timber without requiring a separate washer.
Manufactured from A2 stainless steel, this screw is suitable for external timber construction and landscaping applications. The HECO-TOPIX point supports quick starting with reduced splitting, while the TX40 recess provides secure power transmission during installation.
This HECO-TOPIX timber construction screw combines a wide flange head with a full-thread shank. The full thread provides continuous engagement in the timber, supporting strong connections and effective load transfer.
Key features:
The stainless-steel construction and broad flange head make this screw suitable for timber connections where corrosion resistance and a high clamping force are required. It can be used with suitable softwood and hardwood substrates, subject to the installation requirements of ETA-11/0284.
Typical applications include:
Technical note: Hardwood applications require correctly sized pilot holes in accordance with ETA-11/0284. A2 stainless steel is suitable for many external applications but should not automatically be specified for coastal, swimming-pool or other highly corrosive environments.
Technical note: This is a legacy HECO-TOPIX product. Check the product packaging and applicable Declaration of Performance before using the screw in a structural specification.
What is the HECO-TOPIX Flange Head A2 Stainless Steel 6 x 100mm screw used for?
This screw is designed for timber-to-timber connections, timber construction, joinery and general outdoor woodworking applications where a stainless steel fixing is required. Its enlarged flange head provides a greater bearing surface, helping to distribute the load over the timber.
What are the benefits of the flange head?
The enlarged flange head provides a greater clamping and bearing surface than a conventional screw head. This helps distribute the fixing load and provides a secure connection between timber components.
What material is the HECO-TOPIX 6 x 100mm screw made from?
The screw is manufactured from A2 stainless steel. Stainless steel provides increased resistance to corrosion compared with standard zinc-plated carbon steel fixings, making it suitable for applications where greater resistance to moisture and environmental exposure is required.
What drive bit does the HECO-TOPIX 6 x 100mm screw use?
This screw uses a TX25 Torx drive. A suitable TX25 driver bit should be used to provide positive engagement and controlled torque transfer during installation.
Does the HECO-TOPIX 6 x 100mm screw require pre-drilling?
The HECO-TOPIX screw point is designed to make installation easier and reduce the need for pre-drilling in suitable timber applications. Pre-drilling may still be appropriate in hardwood, dense timber or where the screw is being installed close to timber edges.
What is the advantage of A2 stainless steel?
A2 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance for many external and damp-environment applications. It is particularly useful where a standard zinc-plated carbon steel fixing may not provide sufficient corrosion resistance. The suitability of the fixing should always be assessed against the environmental conditions of the application.
Can the HECO-TOPIX A2 stainless steel screw be used outdoors?
Yes. The A2 stainless steel construction makes this screw suitable for many outdoor and exposed timber applications where increased corrosion resistance is required. For particularly aggressive or coastal environments, the suitability of A2 stainless steel should be assessed carefully and a more corrosion-resistant grade may be required.
What timber can the HECO-TOPIX 6 x 100mm screw be used in?
The screw is suitable for a range of timber construction and woodworking applications. When fixing hardwood or dense timber, pre-drilling may be recommended to reduce installation torque and the risk of splitting.
What does the 6 x 100mm size mean?
The 6mm refers to the nominal screw diameter and 100mm refers to the overall screw length. The appropriate screw length should be selected according to the thickness of the materials being joined and the required penetration into the supporting timber.
Specifics
Nominal diameter: 8mm
Overall length: 80mm
Thread length: 70mm
Thread type: Full thread
Head type: Flange head
Head diameter: 18.0mm
Drive recess: TX40
Box quantity: 50
Selling unit: Each
Material: A2 stainless steel
Approval reference: ETA-11/0284
Manufacturer part number: 46848

Installation: Install using a correctly fitting TX40 driver bit and drive the flange head firmly against the timber without crushing the surface or overdriving the screw. Pre-drilling may not be required in suitable softwood when the fixing position complies with the approval, but correctly sized pilot holes are required when installing stainless-steel screws into hardwood. Screw diameter, length, spacing, edge distances and embedment must follow ETA-11/0284 and the project-specific design.
