Shear nuts, also commonly known as break-off nuts, are a very effective one-way security fastening. They consist of a cone shaped nut with a thin hexagon section at the top. During installation, the hexagon part will 'break-off' when the required torque is reached, leaving just the cone part behind. One of the main benefits of shear nuts is they do not require any special tooling - you can just use a normal spanner or hex driver, which saves considerable cost when compared to other security fasteners.
